Lighting the Dark

Postby Toranos » Sat Jun 19, 2010 1:45 pm

A small progress update, to show you all we have not slowed down our development on Merrimint.

As some may have noticed, our team is changing quite alot recently. This will settle, as we now have the basic structure of the team fulfilled.

We welcome new members..

Programmer - slayeraeb
..to the team, hoping they will enjoy their stay with us.

Merrimint has changed engines from vbgoremania, to Eclipse Origins. This is due to Eclipse Origins' lightweight build, and extended features. vbgoremania is an excellent engine, but half of its contents weren't required, and Eclipse Origins contains necessities, plus more, helpful tools. This will most likely not affect the development, as xskater11x and slayeraeb are both well equipped programmers, both with knowledge on eclipse.

As for the graphical side of Merrimint, I have been keeping a fairly updated log, although Hikaru is working hard behind scenes, cooking up a feast of eye candy.

Although Merrimint seems to have been headed on the track of being a mime of MMORPG's, we have diverted it back to originality. Merrimint will be a unique ORPG, and we wish to stay clear from the cliche feels that MMORPG's offer. Through original features, a unique look, and a one-of-a-kind gameplay, Merrimint will accomplish this, blindfolded. This is done by not only the game being original, but also the community hangout, which is the forums, and the website.

We appreciate your dedication to Merrimint, you are all amazing members, and we are glad to share this with you all.

The game will still be done in the way Hikaru has said in his About Merrimint topic. It wont affect Merrimint feature-wise.

Yes I thought the same thing when I heard about Eclipse: Origins. However Eclipse Origins is not a branch of Eclipse. In fact, the only similarity between Eclipse Origins and the other Eclipse Engines is the name. Robin, a well known programmer, has constructed this engine. It's very clean code, not only that but the editors are easy to use yet powerful. We will still be able to add in every feature we have planned. It won't take anywhere near as much time as if we were to use vbGORE. All in all this is a great engine and we definitely won't be changing.. ever. We've started some real development. So, there should be an alpha out in the near future. The alpha won't be flashy, it won't have everything in it quite yet, and the battle system and all of the animations won't be fully implemented yet. So don't get too disappointed when it comes out because it's won't be a real reflection of what Merrimint will become. It only serves a purpose for the long time followers to get on and run around, and pretty much just have a fun time chatting, and fishing.. or something of the sort. Anyways, thanks to all who have stuck with us.

If you want quests, rip it out of mirage-realms.

Are you fixing all the current bugs in EO yourself or waiting for the next release of the engine? Currently, it's a bit of a mess. Unfinished features and several major bugs.
