The new logo, at least as far as text, shadow, all of that - looks great. In my humble opinion. (But I'm just an amateur.)
At any rate, there's nothing odd about the lightsource or coloration that your average person would notice.

The fact that it has chibis from the roleplay... well, that's a moot point. The RP is part of Merrimint's community, and it's currently the most active topic on the forums - and, personally, I think it's great that the site incorporates user-generated input. As for it having nothing to do with the game, there is no game yet. (And this is the forums, where Merrimint's community gathers - not the main site. Relevance is relative.)

I'm not saying the new logo is good or bad, nor that I'm for or against it. No, I would not have used the sprites myself, but neither would I dismiss it on principle. Nitpicking over details with little significance is not constructive at this stage in the site's development, and as has been seen, the forums are still constantly evolving. There have been at least four changes to the logo, and many other, less noticeable alterations to the overall layout in just the last two or three months; and I imagine there will be several more in the immediate future. Merrimint continues to progress, even if the majority of its members are only aware of cosmetic changes on the surface.

There has been a lot of hostility on this topic as of late, probably for motives that the general community is not privy to, and it has left a bad taste in the forums. This topic was originally intended to generate creative, constructive advice, not to deride the contributions of any person or persons. Individual conflicts will only serve to hinder the site's development and breed resentment. And where's the fun in that?
